Western's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Milani Bonds, who gained 170 total yards and a touchdown, and Calie Greene, who threw for 315 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 10.5 yards per attempt. The dominant performance gave Greene a new career-high in passing yards.
Meanwhile, Mater Academy East Las Vegas waltzed into their game on Monday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They claimed a resounding 43-6 win over the Dragons. Considering the Knights have won eight matchups by more than 19 points this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Western better focus on containing Cheyanne Thornhill and Jasmine White as the pair were huge in Mater Academy East Las Vegas' win. Thornhill threw for 161 yards and four touchdowns, while White rushed for 87 yards and one touchdown on only nine carries. Thornhill is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as she's now passed for three or more in the last five games she's played.
Mater Academy East Las Vegas was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 218 rushing yards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their rushing yard total in four consecutive contests.
Mater Academy East Las Vegas didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Jessica Cooper.
Mater Academy East Las Vegas is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 12.4 points per game. As for Western, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-12.
Western was taken down by Mater Academy East Las Vegas 38-6 when the teams last played back in February of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Thornhill, who threw for 187 yards and four touchdowns, and also rushed for 44 yards and one touchdown.
