Baseball Recap: Oak Glen Comes Up Short

Oak Glen extended their losing streak to four on Saturday, dropping them down to 8-16. They lost 14-1 to the Doddridge County Bulldogs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-1 on Saturday.

As for Doddridge County, they pushed their record up to 20-5 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won 13 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

For Doddridge County's part, Caleb Hall and Hunter Hayhurst made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Hall struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Hayhurst tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Hall has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Hall got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Hayhurst went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI. That's the most runs Hall has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Evan Kelly was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Tristan Swiger, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and two runs.

Oak Glen has already played their next contest, a 15-0 win against Bellaire on the 4th. As for Doddridge County, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, an 11-7 loss against Robert C. Byrd on the 4th.
