The Mogollon Mustangs are taking a road trip to challenge the Phoenix Christian Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Phoenix Christian will be up against a hot Mogollon team: the squad just extended their winning streak to four. The Mustangs were the clear victors by a 10-4 margin over Valley Union on Thursday.
Parker Reidhead was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. That stolen base was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Rocky Porter, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Mogollon hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Valley Union struck out nine times.
Meanwhile, Phoenix Christian got the win against Bagdad on Thursday by a conclusive 9-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cougars.
Jo Jo Alvarado made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Alvarado was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kohen Spannagel, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Evan Matthews was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Mogollon pushed their record up to 13-2 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.7 runs over those games. As for Phoenix Christian, their record now sits at 16-2.
Both Mogollon and Phoenix Christian just can't seem to miss. The Mustangs have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10 hits per game. However, it's not like Phoenix Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 3.7 hits.
