Baseball Recap: American Leadership Academy Wins Going Away Against Thornwell

While American Leadership Academy put up plenty of runs on Wednesday, the same can't be said for Thornwell. The Patriots put the hurt on the Saints with a sharp 14-0 win. The game marked the Patriots' most dominant victory of the season.

Josh Varn looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Eli Tucker, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with three stolen bases and one run. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Giles Dymond, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

American Leadership Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .643. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

American Leadership Academy is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-16 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Thornwell, their loss was their sixth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-12.

Looking ahead, American Leadership Academy will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Whitmire at 6:00 p.m. The Wolverines have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.52 runs per game on average), something the Patriots will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Thornwell, they will head out on the road to challenge Southside at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
