Preview: Pottsville Crimson Tide vs. Mahanoy Area Golden Bears

Pottsville is on a six-game streak of home wins, while Mahanoy Area is on a 14-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Pottsville Crimson Tide will take on the Mahanoy Area Golden Bears at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Pottsville had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They managed a 61-55 win over the Green Wave. Given Pottsville's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 140th, while Nativity BVM is ranked 317th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Pottsville's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kole Becker led the charge by scoring 19 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Becker has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Christian Alvarez, who scored 16 points.

Meanwhile, Mahanoy Area didn't have too much trouble with Marian Catholic on the road on Tuesday as they won 59-40.

Pottsville has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season. As for Mahanoy Area, their win bumped their record up to 23-0.

Everything came up roses for Pottsville against Mahanoy Area in their previous matchup back in February of 2019 as the squad secured a 56-13 victory. Will Pottsville repeat their success, or does Mahanoy Area have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
