Softball Recap: Lakewood Comes Up Short

Lakewood dropped their record down to 9-10 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They fell just short of the South Spartans by a score of 15-14. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Lancers of the 15-2 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2021.

As for South, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-10 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games.

For South's part, Isabella Cacatian was incredible, firing off three home runs, seven RBI, and four runs while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. Those seven RBI gave Cacatian a new career-high. Brynn Stallings was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.

Coming up, Lakewood will welcome Compton at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for South, they will host West at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Warriors' pitching crew has only allowed 2.6 runs per game this season, so the Spartans' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
