Softball Recap: Hiland Drops Highest Score of Season Against Malvern

After low-scoring totals in their previous five contests, Hiland brought some dynamite into their most recent match. They put the hurt on the Malvern Hornets with a sharp 13-4 win on Friday. The Hawks' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Makayla Beachy spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on 11 hits and racked up seven Ks.

On the hitting side, Tori Weaver was a standout: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. Those RBI were her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jalyn Immel, who scored four runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-4.

Hiland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .513. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Hiland's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-5. As for Malvern, their defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-7.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hiland will welcome Sandy Valley at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Malvern, they will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Fairless at 11:00 a.m. The Falcons have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.67 runs per game on average), something the Hornets will no doubt try to take advantage of.
