After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Mellen, Washburn was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They walked away with a 3-1 victory over the Mercer Tigers. The game was the first time the Castle Guards have beaten the Tigers on their court since October 31, 2019.

Washburn had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 24-26, 25-19, 25-13, 25-17.

When it comes to explaining why Mercer lost, don't look at Kaylee Powers. Despite the final result, she had seven kills, five aces, and three blocks. With that strong performance, Powers is now averaging an impressive 2.3 aces per game. Ryley Saarnio was another key player, getting 11 kills.

Washburn's win bumped their record up to 4-8. As for Mercer, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-9.

Washburn has already played their next matchup, a 3-1 victory against Solon Springs on the 18th. As for Mercer, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 2-1 loss against Tournament Team on the 16th.
