Basketball Recap: Little Wound Comes Up Short

Little Wound was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were outmatched by the Cheyenne-Eagle Butte Braves and fell 69-38. The Mustangs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Braves apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.

Cheyenne-Eagle Butte was led to victory by Suni Bowman and Dakotta Longbrake. Bowman dropped a double-double on 23 points and 14 boards, while Longbrake went 5 of 8 en route to 13 points in addition to six assists and five rebounds. Longbrake is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games she's played. Ryan Moran also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Little Wound's defeat dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Cheyenne-Eagle Butte, their win bumped their record up to 4-7.

Little Wound will head out on the road to square off against Pine Ridge at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Cheyenne-Eagle Butte, they will host Stanley County at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. Considering Cheyenne-Eagle Butte has lost six straight at home (dating back to last season) and Stanley County four straight on the road , this one might come down to who's more desperate to change their momentum.
