Volleyball Game Preview: Payton College Prep Grizzlies vs. Whitney Young Dolphins

For the first time this season, Payton College Prep will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will take on the Whitney Young Dolphins at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Last Friday, Payton College Prep came up short against Oak Park-River Forest and fell 2-0. The Grizzlies have struggled against the Huskies recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.

The final score came out to 25-16, 25-20.

Payton College Prep's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Nicholas Kallos, who had 11 digs and two assists, and Jason Beerkens, who had.

Meanwhile, Whitney Young had to kick off their season on the road on Thursday, but they showed no ill effects. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Lincoln Park, sneaking past 2-1. The win continues a trend for the Dolphins in their matchups with the Lions: they've now won four in a row.

Whitney Young had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next two. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-27, 25-17, 25-20.

Payton College Prep's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Whitney Young, their victory bumped their record up to 1-0.

Payton College Prep skirted past Whitney Young 2-1 in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Grizzlies since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
