Baseball Recap: Sotomayor Drops Highest Score of Season Against O'connor

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sotomayor). They came out on top against the O'Connor Panthers by a score of 12-9 on Friday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the WILDCATS considering their one-run performance the matchup before.

Wes Guardiola was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He pitched six innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. Guardiola was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his five plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Sotomayor got a big performance out of Angel Mendoza, who scored a run while going 2-for-2. The dominant performance also gave Mendoza a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Jace Cano, who scored two runs while going 4-for-5.

Sotomayor was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .394. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Sotomayor's record is now 5-3-1. As for O'Connor, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 5-3 record.

Sotomayor and O'Connor should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. Sotomayor (ranked 366th) will meet Marshall (ranked 899th) at 1:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, O'Connor will challenge Antonian Prep at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday up 434 places (154 vs. 588).
