Baseball Recap: Calallen Wins Going Away Against Valley View

With a playoff win on the line, Calallen rose to the challenge on Friday. They blew past the Valley View Tigers 22-3. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won 18 games by six runs or more so far this season.

Hayden Brock looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Aidan Flores was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with five RBI, two runs, and one double. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Chase Lynch, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Calallen always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Calallen pushed their record up to 28-2 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Valley View, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 14-10.

Looking ahead, Calallen will face off against El Campo at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Wildcats 1.4, the Ricebirds 2.9) so any runs scored will be well earned. Valley View does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
