Baseball Recap: Monte Vista Christian Comes Up Short

Monte Vista Christian easily dispatched Pacific Grove last Saturday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Mustangs fell just short of the Greenfield Bruins by a score of 7-5 on Wednesday.

Chris Bautista was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Parker Brown led a balanced group of hitters, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Tyson Shaw, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Monte Vista Christian's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-3. As for Greenfield, their win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 8-2.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Monte Vista Christian beat the Bruins by a score of 10-0 on Friday.
