Baseball Game Preview: Cane Bay Cobras vs. Stratford Knights

For the second straight game, Cane Bay will face off against Stratford. The Cobras will be playing at home against the Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Cane Bay has now lost seven straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since March 27.

Cane Bay might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 7-6 to Stratford, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.

Cane Bay got a good showing from Landon Roberts, who pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Roberts has become a key player for the Cobras: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most three hits, but 3-10 otherwise.

At the plate, Colton Price and Tre' Lawrence stepped up to the plate in a big way. Price got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Lawrence went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Lawrence is becoming a predictor of Cane Bay's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 5-1 (and 0-10 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Dominick Rooney, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Stratford pushed their record up to 13-5 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Cane Bay, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-11.
