Baseball Recap: Knox Central Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Knox Central had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. Everything went their way against the West Greene Buffaloes as they made off with a 12-3 victory. Considering the Panthers have won five matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Russell Mills tossed a big game, tossing 4.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Matthew Powenski was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Hayden Melton, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.

Knox Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .464. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .346 or higher in three consecutive contests.

Knox Central's win bumped their record up to 10-6. As for West Greene, their loss dropped their record down to 8-10-1.

Coming up, Knox Central will venture away from home to take on South Greene at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for West Greene, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 12-1 defeat against Daniel Boone on the 17th.
