Soccer Game Preview: Shaw vs. Newnan

The Shaw Raiders will face off against the Newnan Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Shaw has given up an average of 3.6 goals per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Shaw is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 12 goals on Wednesday, they were much more limited against Pike County on Tuesday. They lost 9-0 to the Pirates. While losing is never fun, Shaw can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia soccer rankings (they are ranked 237th, while Pike County are ranked 28th).

Meanwhile, Newnan kept a clean sheet against Locust Grove on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Wildcats with a sharp 6-0 win. The result was nothing new for Newnan, who have now won eight games by four goals or more so far this season.

They hit Locust Grove with a four-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Maddie Roche (3), Lane McKoon, Amelia Todd, and Maddie Vaughn.

The victory made it two in a row for Newnan and bumps their season record up to 9-7. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up zero goals over those two matches. As for Shaw, their loss dropped their record down to 8-7.
