Baseball Game Preview: George West Longhorns vs. West Oso Bears

The George West Longhorns will head out on the road to challenge the West Oso Bears at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

George West is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 14 runs last Tuesday, they were much more limited against Aransas Pass on Tuesday. They fell 5-1 to the Panthers.

Vance Partridge was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Conner Little made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases. Another player making a difference was Trevor Poe, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base.

West Oso hadn't beaten Taft on the road since February 24, 2017 but that history sure didn't bother them on Tuesday. The Bears walked away with a 12-8 victory over the Greyhounds.

West Oso let Jaime Guerrero and Julian Garcia run wild. Guerrero scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5, while Garcia went 2-for-3 with four RBI and one run. Guerrero is becoming a predictor of West Oso's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-2 (and 5-6 when he doesn't). Isaiah Galvan also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

West Oso kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

George West has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 15-15-2 record this season. As for West Oso, their win ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 9-8.

George West was able to grind out a solid victory over West Oso when the teams last played two weeks ago, winning 5-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Longhorns since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
