Recap: Carterville Lions vs. Marion Wildcats
The Carterville Lions put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They took down Marion 57-40. Given Carterville's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 67th, while Marion is ranked 384th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Carterville to victory were Khamari Jackson and Amayah Doyle. Jackson scored 20 points along with six rebounds, while Doyle scored 22 points along with nine rebounds and three steals. The match was Doyle's ninth in a row with at least ten points. Kennedy Rushing was another key contributor, scoring six points along with five rebounds.
Carterville pushed their record up to 9-0 with that win, which was their third straight on the road. They've been dominating during the matches in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 19 points. As for Marion, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season.
Carterville will be playing in front of their home fans against Harrisburg at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Harrisburg is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling. As for Marion, they will head out on the road to face off against Graves County at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
