Softball Preview: Harmon Hawks vs. Atchison Phoenix

Harmon hasn't had much luck against Atchison recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Hawks will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Phoenix at 6:00 p.m.

Harmon fell victim to Sumner Academy and their airtight pitching crew on April 7th. They lost 16-0 to the Sabres.

Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Atchison ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 11-10 victory over Sumner Academy. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Phoenix have posted since May 3, 2025.

Kirrah Duncan was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 13 batters over eight innings while giving up five earned (and five unearned) runs off six hits. Those 13 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-6 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Andi Estes was incredible, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2025. Another player making a difference was Kelsey Rebant, who went 3-for-5 with two RBI and one run.

Atchison kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sumner Academy only managed five.

The victory got Atchison back to even at 5-5. As for Harmon, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.
