Basketball Recap: Brooklynn Hanchett Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat St. Edward

Timothy Christian hadn't done well against St. Edward recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Trojans snuck past the Green Wave with a 60-55 win. Given the Trojans' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 17th, while the Green Wave are ranked 130th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Timothy Christian's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brooklynn Hanchett, who went 5-for-10 en route to 14 points and six rebounds. Those 14 points gave Hanchett a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Elisabeth Van Den Berg, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and 12 boards.

Timothy Christian's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-1. As for St. Edward, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Timothy Christian will take on Chicago Hope Academy in a holiday battle at 7:00 p.m. on the 19th. As for St. Edward, they will challenge St. Charles North at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.
