Softball Recap: North Newton Beats West Central for Their Fourth Straight Win

North Newton extended their winning streak to four on Friday, bumping their season record up to 17-3-1 in the process. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the West Central Trojans a 3-0 shutout. The Spartans have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Trojans, too.

The result came thanks to Sydney Rainford's shutout, as she gave up just four hits and racked up 16 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 16 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, North Newton secured the victory behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Macy Busboom, who went 1-for-2 with one double.

As for West Central, their loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-7. The game marked the first time this season in which they were not able to get on the board.

On West Central's side, Jalie Glasford spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on two hits.

North Newton and West Central should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings. The Spartans will challenge North White at 1:00 p.m. on Monday with a big rank advantage (89 vs. 217). Meanwhile, West Central (ranked 142nd) will meet Caston (ranked 304th) at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
