Baseball Recap: Mount Vernon Comes Up Short

Mount Vernon had lost seven straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 1-9 to make it eight. They came up short against the Blind Brook Trojans, falling 9-1. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Knights of the 11-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2022.

As for Blind Brook, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games.

For Blind Brook's part, Jack Pastor spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up 14 Ks.

On the hitting side, Elliott Zwicker was incredible, getting on base in four of his six plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. He has become a key player for Blind Brook: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-8 otherwise. John Marino was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two RBI.

Looking ahead, Mount Vernon will square off against Edgemont at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Knights are facing the Panthers at the right time seeing as the Panthers are stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Blind Brook, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 5-0 loss against Briarcliff on the 6th.
