Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Tucker Griffin and Cole Forthofer Lead Jay County to Victory

After losing to Yorktown the last time they met, Jay County decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Jay County Patriots snuck past the Yorktown Tigers with a 42-36 win on Saturday.

Leading Jay County to victory were Cole Forthofer and Tucker Griffin. Forthofer went 8-for-9 on his way to 18 points in addition to eight rebounds and three blocks, while Griffin posted 11 points along with seven assists and three steals. Forthofer is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Gradin Swoveland, who earned four points in addition to six boards and five assists.

They weren't the only ones working in the assist department: Jay County was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They are 9-3 when they've passed the ball that well.

Despite the loss, Yorktown still got an impressive performance from Jabin Barnes, who shot 60% from the field to rack up 12 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Those three steals gave Barnes a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Nate Tyler, who put up four points.

Jay County's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 10-8. As for Yorktown, they dropped their record down to 5-14 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Jay County has already played their next game, a 72-64 loss against Hamilton Heights on the 18th. As for Yorktown, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 63-50 win against Muncie Central on the 18th.
