Baseball Recap: Washburn Takes a Loss

Washburn was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss dating back to last season. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-4 heartbreaker at the hands of the Concord Christian Lions. That's two games in a row now that the Pirates have lost by just one run.

Bryson Coffman and Landry Coffey stepped up to the plate in a big way. Coffman scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances, while Coffey scored a run while going 3-for-4.

Washburn's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Concord Christian, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Washburn will head out to square off against West Greene at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Concord Christian, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Concord Christian Lions face off against Pigeon Forge Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
