Recap: Panguitch Bobcats vs. El Capitan/Centennial Academy

The Panguitch Bobcats waltzed into their contest Tuesday with three straight wins but they left with four. They took down El Capitan/Centennial Academy 54-40. Given Panguitch's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 29th in Utah, while El Capitan/Centennial Academy is ranked 143rd in Arizona), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Panguitch to victory were Daxton Miller and Cache Eyre. Miller scored ten points along with eight rebounds and five steals, while Eyre scored 22 points. Those five steals set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Justin Osburn, who scored ten points.

When it comes to explaining why El Capitan/Centennial Academy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Ethan Hammon. Despite the final result, he scored 11 points along with seven rebounds. The game was Hammon's ninth in a row with at least ten points. Denim White was another key contributor, scoring six points along with three steals.

Panguitch's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-1. As for El Capitan/Centennial Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Panguitch will face off against Bryce Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. El Capitan/Centennial Academy is on the road again on Wednesday and play against Beaver Dam at 8:00 p.m. on December 13th. Beaver Dam comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 21 points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
