Softball Game Preview: Nansemond-Suffolk Academy Saints vs. Currituck County Knights

The Nansemond-Suffolk Academy Saints are taking a road trip to square off against the Currituck County Knights at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Nansemond-Suffolk Academy will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.

While Nansemond-Suffolk Academy's win against Brunswick Academy wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Saints narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Vikings 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Saints have posted since March 12th.

Great Bridge hit Currituck County with a seven-run fifth inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Knights took a 9-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wildcats. The Knights have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Julia Twine was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over 4.1 innings pitched. What's more, she gave up only two walks, the fewest she's had since back in March. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.

In other batting news, Victoria Jones made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with two runs and one double.

Nansemond-Suffolk Academy's victory bumped their record up to 11-4. As for Currituck County, their loss dropped their record down to 11-10.

Nansemond-Suffolk Academy beat Currituck County 3-0 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Saints since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
