Preview: Pinewood Prep Panthers vs. Porter-Gaud Cyclones

Pinewood Prep is 1-9 against the Cyclones since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Pinewood Prep Panthers' road trip will continue as they head out to face the Porter-Gaud Cyclones at 7:30 p.m. on February 2nd. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.

Last Tuesday, Pinewood Prep didn't have too much trouble with the Cavaliers on the road as they won 56-39. Given Pinewood Prep's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 63rd, while the Cavaliers are ranked 217th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Pinewood Prep's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Jayden Alexander, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine steals, and Michael Jones, who scored 13 points along with six steals and five rebounds. Alexander is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Tripp Eidson was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with eight rebounds and two steals.

Meanwhile, Porter-Gaud put the finishing touches on their seventh blowout victory of the season on Saturday. They put the hurt on Wilson Hall with a sharp 69-48 win. The win made it back-to-back wins for Porter-Gaud.

Pinewood Prep is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 20-9 record this season. As for Porter-Gaud, they pushed their record up to 17-4 with that victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.

Things could have been worse for Pinewood Prep, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 46-31 loss to the Cyclones in their previous matchup back in January. Can Pinewood Prep avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
