Basketball Recap: Ashur Lavigne's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Manitou Springs over Banning Lewis Academy

Manitou Springs lost against Banning Lewis Academy back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Manitou Springs Mustangs fell to the Banning Lewis Academy Stallions 45-40.

Manitou Springs lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Ashur Lavigne, who posted 18 points. Cohen Barrett was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Leading Banning Lewis Academy to victory were Matthew Lebron and Jordan Jones. Lebron went 7 of 17 en route to 20 points, while Jones scored five points in addition to 19 rebounds and three steals. The game was Lebron's eighth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Trey Oden, who put up four points along with nine boards and five assists.

The loss was their first at home , dropping their record down to 6-4. As for Banning Lewis Academy, they picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 5-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Manitou Springs will head out to take on Florence at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Banning Lewis Academy, they will head out on the road to square off against St. Mary's at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in St. Mary's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five matchups.
