Baseball Game Preview: Tallwood Lions vs. First Colonial Patriots

Tallwood hasn't had much luck against First Colonial recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Lions will venture away from home to face off against the Patriots at 4:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Having struggled with six defeats in a row, Tallwood turned things around against Salem on Tuesday. They walked away with a 9-5 win over the Sundevils.

Ben Thomas was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024. KJ Reynolds also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Tallwood kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, First Colonial came tearing into Tuesday's match with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Eagles get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. The Patriots might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by six runs or more this season.

First Colonial's win was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.9 runs on average over those games. As for Tallwood, they picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 2-6.

Tallwood might still be hurting after the 8-0 loss they got from First Colonial in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Lions avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
