Basketball Game Preview: Escondido Charter Tigers vs. Tri-City Christian Eagles

The Escondido Charter Tigers will square off against the Tri-City Christian Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Tri-City Christian will be up against a hot Escondido Charter team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. Everything went Escondido Charter's way against Mission Vista on Tuesday as Escondido Charter made off with a 78-56 victory. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Tigers just coasted through the last quarter.

Escondido Charter's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Max Mowrey, who went 11 for 16 en route to 28 points along with six rebounds and three steals. With that strong performance, Mowrey is now averaging an impressive 15.2 points per game. Joe Scates was another key player, dropping a double-double on 18 points and 12 boards.

Meanwhile, Tri-City Christian didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Army-Navy on Tuesday, but they still walked away with a 57-52 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Eagles.

Tri-City Christian's win came from a few key players Escondido Charter will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Garry Dillard III, who went 6 of 13 on his way to 13 points in addition to six assists and five rebounds. That's the most assists he has posted since back in January of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of David Turner, who posted 12 points.

Escondido Charter's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-11. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.0 points per game. As for Tri-City Christian, their win bumped their record up to 5-6.

Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as Escondido Charter and Tri-City Christian are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Escondido Charter hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 56.2 points per game. However, it's not like Tri-City Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 57.5 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.

Escondido Charter beat Tri-City Christian 61-51 in their previous matchup back in January of 2023. Will Escondido Charter repeat their success, or does Tri-City Christian have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
