Having struggled with three defeats in a row, Notre Dame Academy turned things around against St. Joseph Hill Academy on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over the Hilltoppers.
The team relied heavily on Lily Ogrodowski, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Madi Hager, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Notre Dame Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, St. Ursula Academy entered their tilt with Fairport on Wednesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They walked away with a 13-8 victory over the Red Raiders.
Brooke Bowers made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one triple. That triple was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Sydney Schlachter was incredible, going 4-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. Those doubles marked the first that she has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Witek, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Notre Dame Academy's win bumped their record up to 5-7. As for St. Ursula Academy, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Notre Dame Academy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .388. However, it's not like St. Ursula Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .356. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
