Preview: Birdville Hawks vs. Grapevine Mustangs
Birdville is 2-8 against Grapevine since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Birdville Hawks will head out on the road to take on the Grapevine Mustangs at 5:45 p.m. Birdville is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
Birdville suffered their biggest defeat since December 8, 2023 on Tuesday. They were the victim of a tough 47-23 loss at the hands of Ryan. Birdville has struggled against Ryan recently, as their contest on Tuesday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Meanwhile, Grapevine wound up with the same score they had in their last game (42-29), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time. While losing is never fun, they can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 344th, while Colleyville Heritage is ranked 140th).
Birdville's loss was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 9-16. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 27.3 points per game. As for Grapevine, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-13.
Birdville couldn't quite finish off Grapevine in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 and fell 40-38. Can Birdville avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
