Basketball Preview: Spanish Fork Dons vs. Springville Red Devils
Spanish Fork is 1-9 against the Red Devils since December of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Spanish Fork Dons will be playing at home against the Springville Red Devils at 7:00 p.m. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Spanish Fork has struggled recently with six losses in a row, while the Red Devils will arrive with four straight victories.
Spanish Fork pushed their score all the way to 63 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 64-63 to Salem Hills. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Tuesday (55), Spanish Fork still had to take the loss.
Despite their defeat, Spanish Fork saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Landon Leatherwood, who scored 23 points, was perhaps the best of all. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Leatherwood has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Ethan Beckstead, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Springville beat the Thunderbirds 54-47 on Friday.
Spanish Fork's defeat was their eighth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-15. As for Springville, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 11-8.
