Softball Recap: Covington Takes a Loss

Covington dropped down to 10-8 on Thursday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 15-0 to the Ponchatoula Green Wave. The Lions were red-hot at the plate heading into the contest (they scored no less than ten runs in the three matchups prior), but the Green Wave's pitchers proved too tough.

As for Ponchatoula, their win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-5. The result was nothing new for the Green Wave, who have now won nine games by six runs or more so far this season.

For Ponchatoula's part, Abby Dagro made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Dagro has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Ayeva Nobles was a standout: she went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Paityn Lancaster was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Coming up, Covington is taking a road trip to challenge Thibodaux at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Ponchatoula, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Pearl River at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
