Calumet waltzed into their matchup on Monday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They slipped by the L'Anse Purple Hornets 56-55. That's more bragging rights for the Copper Kings, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Despite the defeat, L'Anse saw an underclassman step up: freshman Sam Lee went 11 for 23 en route to 33 points and four steals. Another player making a difference was Kolyn Sweeney, who posted four points and four steals.

Calumet has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.9 points per game. As for L'Anse, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-7.

Calumet and L'Anse could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Michigan Rankings. Calumet will face off against Iron Mountain at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday down 308 places (355 vs. 47). Similarly, L'Anse (ranked 494th) will meet Dollar Bay (ranked 204th) at 7:15 p.m. on Friday.
