Basketball Recap: South Florence Falls Despite Big Games from Jarius Davis and Josh Gamble

On Monday, the South Florence Bruins came up short against the Westside Rams and fell 61-48.

Despite the defeat, South Florence had strong showings from Josh Gamble, who posted 19 points, and Jarius Davis, who put up 14 points in addition to seven rebounds and five assists. That's the most assists Davis has posted since back in February of 2024. Bryson Brockington also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.

Westside found their leader in sophomore Jayden Heggins, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 14 boards. Those 14 rebounds set a new season-high mark for Heggins. Another player making a difference was Jonovan Webb, who had nine points along with five assists and five boards.

South Florence has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-8 record this season. As for Westside, their record is now 14-4.

South Florence and Westside should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps South Carolina Rankings. South Florence will challenge Hartsville at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday up 142 places (44 vs. 186). South Florence is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.7 points per game this season. Similarly, Westside (ranked 15th) will meet Southside (ranked 223rd) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
