Basketball Recap: Foothill Falls Despite Big Games from Dejon Townsend and Cordet Espinoza

Foothill managed to keep up with Las Vegas until halftime on Tuesday, but things quickly went downhill from there. The Foothill Falcons lost 71-49 to the Las Vegas Wildcats. The Falcons were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wildcats apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

Cordet Espinoza and Dejon Townsend certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Espinoza posted 16 points and five rebounds, while Townsend went 7 for 13 on his way to 15 points. That's the most points Espinoza has posted since back in December of 2024. Thayne Watson was another key player, putting up five points.

It was another big night for Tayshaun Jackson, who went 9 of 15 en route to 24 points along with eight boards and seven assists for Las Vegas. That makes it five consecutive games in which Jackson has scored at least a third of Las Vegas' points. Another player making a difference was Amari Hinds, who went 5 for 9 on his way to 12 points.

Foothill has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-15 record this season. As for Las Vegas, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-13.

Foothill didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 58-55 victory against Durango on the 30th. As for Las Vegas, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 75-52 loss against Bishop Gorman on the 30th.
