Softball Recap: Shafter Victorious

Shafter proved they can win big last Thursday (they won by 11) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Chavez Titans 5-4. The win continues a trend for the Generals in their matchups with the Titans: they've now won seven in a row.

Maddison Ortiz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on five hits and racked up ten Ks. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024.

At the plate, Victoria Rodriguez was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Another player making a difference was Miranda Ascencio, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.

Shafter's victory bumped their record up to 7-2-1. As for Chavez, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-4.

Shafter didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 7-2 defeat against Garces Memorial on the 19th. As for Chavez, they will challenge Shafter at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Shafter is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
