Basketball Game Preview: Papillion-LaVista Monarchs vs. Papillion-LaVista South Titans

The Papillion-LaVista Monarchs and the Papillion-LaVista South Titans will round out the year against one another at at 10:15 a.m. on Friday. Papillion-LaVista knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five contests -- so hopefully Papillion-LaVista South likes a good challenge.

Last Thursday, Papillion-LaVista narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Omaha North 71-68.

Rease Murtaugh was her usual excellent self, going 12 of 18 on her way to 36 points. That makes it four consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Papillion-LaVista's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Taliyah Jackson, who posted 12 points and seven rebounds.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Papillion-LaVista South, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They blew past Elkhorn South 61-32 on Friday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Titans as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Papillion-LaVista pushed their record up to 4-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.0 points per game. As for Papillion-LaVista South, their victory bumped their record up to 2-3.

Things could have been worse for Papillion-LaVista, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 57-38 loss to Papillion-LaVista South when the teams last played back in February. Can Papillion-LaVista avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
