Softball Game Preview: South Pemiscot Bulldogs vs. Caruthersville Tigers

For the second straight game, South Pemiscot will face off against Caruthersville. The Bulldogs will be playing at home against the Tigers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The timing is sure in South Pemiscot's favor as the team sits on five straight wins at home while Caruthersville has been banged up by eight consecutive losses on the road.

The home team had won the previous two meetings between South Pemiscot and Caruthersville, and South Pemiscot kept the tradition alive. The Bulldogs blew past the Tigers 15-5 on Wednesday. Considering the Bulldogs have won 16 contests by more than seven runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Phoenix Simmons made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Ayleighonna Farmer and Ta'Kylah Wooden did most of the damage at the plate: Farmer got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run, while Wooden went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most RBI Wooden has posted since back in March. Mollie Moore was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

South Pemiscot is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.6 runs over those games. As for Caruthersville, their loss dropped their record down to 3-17.
