Softball Recap: Liberty Now 9-1 over Last Ten Games

Liberty won the last time they faced Astoria/VIT and things went their way on Thursday too. The Eagles blew past the Rebels 18-8. Considering the Eagles have won 11 matchups by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Ava Heming made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over six innings pitched. Heming was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Claire Obert, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. Another player making a difference was Anna Dietrich, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Liberty was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .467. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Astoria/VIT only posted a batting average of .227.

Liberty has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Astoria/VIT, they dropped their record down to 5-16 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Liberty has already played their next game, a 14-8 victory against Camp Point Central on the 9th. As for Astoria/VIT, they will face off against Havana at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Ducks' pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so the Rebels' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
