Basketball Recap: Rylan Crowell's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Emporia over Maize South

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Emporia can now relate to. They took a 57-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Maize South Mavericks on Wednesday. The Spartans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mavericks apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2018.

Emporia lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Rylan Crowell, who shot 4-for-6 from deep and almost dropped a double-double with 17 points and nine boards. He has been hot recently, having posted nine or more rebounds the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Nolan Jacob, who went 5-for-8 on his way to 14 points.

Emporia's loss dropped their record down to 12-9. As for Maize South, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-9 record this season.

Emporia does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Maize South, they have already played their next game, a 61-42 defeat against Kapaun Mt. Carmel on the 8th.
