Softball Game Preview: Dougherty Valley Wildcats vs. Newark Memorial Cougars

The Dougherty Valley Wildcats will venture away from home to take on the Newark Memorial Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Dougherty Valley will be strutting in after a win while Newark Memorial will be coming in after a defeat.

It was a proper cat-fight when Dougherty Valley duked it out with Campolindo on Thursday. Dougherty Valley's pitchers stepped up to hand Campolindo a 17-0 shutout. The victory continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now won five in a row.

Katie Osborn made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. Osborn was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sydney Henry, who went 3-for-4 with six RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kaitlyn Lohe, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Dougherty Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .575. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Campolindo only posted an OBP of .167.

Meanwhile, Newark Memorial unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They took a 7-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of Foothill on Wednesday. The loss continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Falcons: they've now lost four in a row.

Newark Memorial saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mahlyah Sao, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Dougherty Valley took their win against Newark Memorial in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 9-3. Does Dougherty Valley have another victory up their sleeve, or will Newark Memorial turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
