Softball Recap: Emerson Takes a Loss

Emerson fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Lebanon Trail on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Lebanon Trail Trail Blazers by a score of 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Mavericks have suffered since March 13, 2024.

Addison Hudnall spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 14 Ks. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in strikeouts.

On the hitting side, Emerson saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gianna Lipsky, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. What's more, Lipsky posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. Another was Amilee Stapp, who went 1-for-4 with one triple and one run.

Lipsky wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Emerson kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive games.

Emerson's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 9-6. As for Lebanon Trail, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3-1 record this season.

Emerson and Lebanon Trail should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. Emerson (ranked 257th) will meet Memorial (ranked 527th) at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Lebanon Trail will face off against Centennial at 6:00 p.m. on Friday up 369 places (322 vs. 691).
