Football Recap: Century Comes Up Short

Century suffered their biggest defeat since October 25, 2024 on Friday. They were outmatched by the Costa Mesa Mustangs and fell 54-14. The Centurions were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 34-7.

Despite the loss, Century still got an impressive performance from Matthew Pantaleon, who rushed for 80 yards and one touchdown on only seven carries.

Leading Costa Mesa to victory were Andrew Waiss and Gavin Garza. Waiss rushed for 131 yards and a pair of scores on only six carries, while Garza rushed for 201 yards and three TDs while picking up 8.7 yards per carry. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 68 yards.

Century's loss dropped their record down to 2-2-1. As for Costa Mesa, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 4-1.

Century didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 26-21 win against Loara on the 25th. As for Costa Mesa, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Santiago at 7:00 p.m. on October 2. This will be the Mustangs' first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
