Baseball Game Preview: Mid-Pacific Institute Owls vs. Pac-Five Wolfpack

Mid-Pacific Institute is a perfect 10-0 against Pac-Five since March of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Owls will be playing in front of their home fans against the Wolfpack at 3:30 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Mid-Pacific Institute is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Hawaii's top teams: Damien, who was ranked ninth at the time (Mid-Pacific Institute was ranked 21st). The Owls fell just short of the Monarchs by a score of 4-3 on Tuesday. The Owls have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Pac-Five didn't have quite enough to beat Maryknoll on Tuesday and fell 4-3.

Ryden Toyama put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that he hit this season.

Toyama wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ethan Lee (Ethan), who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Pac-Five's defeat dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Mid-Pacific Institute, their loss dropped their record down to 2-5-1.

Mid-Pacific Institute came out on top in a nail-biter against Pac-Five when the teams last played last Saturday, sneaking past 6-5. Will the Owls repeat their success, or do the Wolfpack have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
