Volleyball Recap: Oglethorpe County Starts Season with Loss on the Road

Oglethorpe County kicked off their season on the road on Tuesday and hit a couple of potholes. They fell just short of the Oconee County Warriors by a score of 2-1. The defeat continues a trend for the Patriots in their meetings with the Warriors: they've now lost three in a row.

In a back-and-forth that saw neither team win consecutive sets, Oglethorpe County sadly dropped the once that decided the match. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-18, 23-25, 15-4.

Leanna Newton paced Oglethorpe County's offense, picking up eight kills. Newton got some help from Naomi McPeake and her 14 assists. Nora Turner controlled things from the service line, finishing with two aces.

Coincidentally, Oglethorpe County and Oconee County will both be playing Calhoun the next time they take the court. The Patriots will host the Yellow Jackets at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Warriors will play them later in the day, at 7:00 p.m.
