Basketball Recap: Weston Hardeman's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Lyons-Decatur Northeast over Wakefield

Lyons-Decatur Northeast was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They lost 56-34 to the Wakefield Trojans. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Cougars of the 52-40 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2024.

Several Cougars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Weston Hardeman, who posted ten points. Another player making a difference was Elijah Schlichting, who scored nine points.

Even though they lost, Lyons-Decatur Northeast smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Cael Johnson continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Wakefield, dropping a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. Johnson's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Joaquin Chavez also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.

Lyons-Decatur Northeast's loss dropped their record down to 4-11. As for Wakefield, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-7.

Lyons-Decatur Northeast has already played their next matchup, a 68-35 defeat against Mead on the 24th. As for Wakefield, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 75-52 win against Tri County Northeast on the 24th.
