It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Providence School ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out the Mandarin Mustangs 8-7. The victory was some much needed relief for the Stallions as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Elle Burns was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over nine innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off nine hits. Burns was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-4. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Sophia Prather was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Lorelai Herndon, who scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-2.
Providence School's win bumped their record up to 2-5. As for Mandarin, they now have a losing record of 5-6.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Providence School will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Ponte Vedra at 6:00 p.m. on March 25th. As for Mandarin, they will square off against Bolles at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mandarin is facing Bolles at the right time seeing as Bolles is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
