Basketball Recap: Ave'veyon Watkins Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Gage Park

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but DuSable had no problem doing just that on Monday. They walked away with a 73-61 victory over the Gage Park Fighting Owls. That's more bragging rights for the Panthers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

DuSable's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ave'Veyon Watkins, who posted 17 points and five boards. That's the most points Watkins has posted since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Patrick Malone, who put up 17 points.

DuSable has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.5 points per game. As for Gage Park, they moved to 8-2 with that defeat, which also ended their five-game winning streak.

DuSable will face off against Bowen at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Bowen will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something DuSable surely won't give up without a fight. Gage Park does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
